A massive water main break has left thousands of residents in El Paso, Texas, in a difficult situation. Imagine turning on your faucet and finding no water, or worse, water that could make you sick!
UPDATE: As of 5:25 PM, the scale of the issue becomes clearer. Approximately 38,000 customers have been affected, and the situation is serious. El Paso Water is urging these residents to boil their water to ensure safety. They recommend a thorough boil, bringing the water to a rolling boil for at least 3 minutes.
But here's where it gets concerning: the utility company will only give the all-clear once tests confirm the absence of bacteria. This could take time, leaving residents in limbo.
UPDATE 5:22 PM: El Paso Water has confirmed the potential for contamination, which may cause nausea, cramps, diarrhea, and headaches. This is not a minor issue! The Office of Emergency Management is taking it seriously, advising residents to boil water or rely on bottled water.
And this is the part most businesses might miss: drinking fountains and soda fountains connected to the tap water supply should be shut down immediately.
Boil Water Notice: El Paso Water has officially issued a notice for all customers in Central and Northeast El Paso, including parts of McGregor Range, who were impacted by the early Sunday morning incident.
The physical impact is evident, with water pressure at critically low levels in multiple reservoirs.
The water main break occurred near Skyline Park, at the intersection of Girl Scout and Transmountain. Full restoration is expected to take a grueling 24 hours, leaving residents and businesses to navigate this challenge.
